Pepper's owner left him when the owner moved out of the trailer and Pepper was left to fend for himself. Pepper came to Vanguard Animal Rescue after landowner shot him in the back with a .22. After his treatment and medical evaluation, Pepper went on to chew his way out of a 5x5 chain link kennel, break through the window and attack another male dog in the yard. We found Pepper to be very aggressive to other males dogs, and highly dependant on his base insticts, particuliarly his prey instinct. With 30+ other dogs on site, what were we to do.
Vanguard Animal Rescue is specifically designed to help dogs with behaviorial issues, like Pepper. We put Pepper through our 3 month training and socialization program to see if he could be saved.
Pepper completed the program and now loive at the sanctuary with the other dogs.
Vanguard Animal Rescue was contacted by an organization that works with the homelss community in our area, with a request for long term boarding. At the time, Daniel was homeless and boucing around from place to place with his faithful dog, Princess. Daniel was looking to go into treatment, get a job and apartment, and get his life back on track. However, he did not have anywhere for Princess to go while this was all happening. We agreed to board Princess, free of charge, until Daniel was ready to come take her home.
During the 9 months Princess was with us, we were in constant contact with Daniel and it was very obvious he loved and missed his dog. When Daniel did return, there was a lovely reunion and Princess got to go to her forever home!
Once back home, Daniel worked with Princess and she is now a fully licensed service dog! To be able to play even a small role in helping these two overcome some tough challenges and seeing the bond and love between these two was the best reward we could ever hope for.
